Going blind…

March 5, 2006

Blind linking is something that seems to be a common occurrence.  I just never realized that companies make money for getting a person to click onto another site.  I just feel naive for thinking they include these sites in their own for no profit.  Ping backs are an interesting concept because I would not imagine that money could be made this way.  I suppose if enough hits are made on a site that it could pay off for the company to have other sites on their page.

I do not understand how people can entice people into clicking a link in where they do not want to be directed.  This is what blind linking does though, it just does not tell the person where they are going to be taken.  People do this all the time!  I have friends that have put in their profiles something that mentions pictures, but is links them to a site where people can track who clicked on the site.  This is deceiving to the person clicking, but that is the overall point of it.

For a site to push their viewers into a porn related site might seem strange, but they are all in it for the money.  People do not invest in something that won’t pay them back in the long run.  When searching the Internet people should be aware that they might be taken somewhere that is off topic.  I sure do not want to be taken to a website about porn while trying to do research for a paper!

Edit of Safe Sex

In a day and age where parents have become too busy to talk about safe sex with their children.  Children learn from their peers or from the media about sex.  The problem is that safe sex if often not portrayed as important in the media.  Many young men in high school use porn as a tool for learning and a guide to having sex.  As mentioned in lecture before it is not common practice to use condoms in porn films.

Responsibility should be placed on the parents for educating their children about safe sex.  On the other hand the sex industry should also hold some responsibility in portraying safe sexual acts.  Abstinence cannot be the main point in sex education when society is stressing sex on young audiences.  The parents should see that society is changing and they should in turn affect how they teach their children about sex.

Pornography counteracts the lessons parents try and stress in their children’s life.  In the porn industry women are praised with high pay for acting in porn.  This sends a message that sex with multiple partners and unprotected is acceptable.  Just because these people do not have an STD does not make it morally all right to engage in these activities.

About the MONEY

February 26, 2006

In response to gay porn…with straight guys…hmmmm

Keep in mind that Dr. Halavis also stated in the lecture that people in the porn industry have fewer opportunities.  They probably did not have the money or the means to attend college and get a degree.  In this day and age a degree is vital in the world to succeed and have a good job.  Although there are jobs that can be obtained without a college degree they do not offer the kind of money that the porn industry does.

This may be the only opportunity they had to pull in a good paycheck and support their families.  Who are you to judge whether they are gay or not?!  They know their sexuality and if they choose to do something that portrays them as gay that is their choice.  I tend to think if someone is placed into a compromising situation in terms of money they will do what it takes to survive.

Furthermore, men in heterosexual porn do not make enough money.  Most straight men would obviously choose to be with women if the money was there, but it isn’t.  This brings me to the point of double standards.  Men think that woman on woman action is okay, but two men are not okay.  If women engage in lesbian porn because the money is there I doubt you would be saying how wrong that is!  Porn is a business; they do it for the money!

Shared responsibilities

February 26, 2006

The sex industry obviously comes with some risks in personal health.  In regards to what would be the best policy for safety would be a mix of self-regulation and the government regulated ways of Nevada.  I think that both aspects would be very important in staying safe from STDs.

Self-regulation should always be a priority in everyone’s life, not just in the sex industry.  I feel it is important for people to hold personal responsibility for their actions.  In the industry though it should be a higher priority of regulation so that they do not endanger their coworkers.  I also believe or hope to at least think that porn stars are more responsible about their actions while not at work.

Government regulations should also be in place in the industry.  They should not get involved to the point of making the workers wear condoms because that should be the choice of the people engaging in the activity.  Regulation should come into affect in regards to regular testing for STDs.  This would prevent people from neglecting this aspect of personal health.  Regular testing could put a stop to any outbreaks that might occur within the industry.

Every person in the sex industry should want to get testing doing regularly, but government regulation would ensure this would be required.  There is no stopping the porn industry so the government should intervene partially and help in upstanding health regulations.

Regulation makes a difference

February 26, 2006

I think that pornography should be considered separate from prostitution.  Prostitutes have clients that they do not know and could be exposed to anything.  Porn stars may not know of the person that they are shooting a scene with, but they have at least heard of them or have some information about them.  The situation is also different in that prostitutes often go in back alleys and places where it is easy for them to be targeted and taken advantage of.

Porn stars are also taken advantage of at some point in their careers.  This makes them vulnerable because they have to keep making money.  If they do not keep giving the audience more they will make less money.  I believe that this is not the industry exploiting her, but how human nature works.  Human nature is to become bored of something that is so familiar and so they move onto something different.  I think this is what pushes porno stars into doing more sexual acts.

Pornography at least has some limitations of protection that are either self regulated or is regulated through the production company.  This can help eliminate some of the risk factors involved in having sex for a living.  Overall pornography is safer than say sleeping with just anyone who is willing on the street that has no regulation standards.

Disney is in the game…

February 20, 2006

I agree with Let’s Talk Porn on the subject of sexual innuendoes in movies.  Disney is supposed to be promoting movies that can be viewed by children, but have been accused of including things that are not appropriate for children.  An example is in The Lion King, when Simba is lying in the field under the sky the dandelions float up into the sky and spell the word sex.

This may have been unintentional (which I doubt), but should definitely have been caught in a pre-screening of the film.  There should be no doubt that this is an accident since there have been other accusations against other Disney films.  In the movie The Little Mermaid during the wedding the priest has an erection.  This may seem to be another “accident” however, it just doesn’t seem that this would slip more than once without purposely doing so.

The parents should be more wary of the messages being portrayed in movies by Disney.  They may have a market of selling movies to kids, but this has to be looked at in a different manor of being inappropriate.  Since these are so subtle the children may not notice, but that does not make it right to have these hidden or unintentional messages included in films that are marketed for young crowds.

I do not find it to be an excuse to put stuff in for the parents to laugh at.  Parents should be prepared to watch children movies without having things included to make them laugh.  They have children so they know that watching children movies is part of being a parent.  Disney should not include these things in the movies for the sake of a laugh for adults.

Time Warner was ahead…

February 20, 2006

I was unaware of the Adelphia option of ordering pornography since I am not really from the area.  However, I know that in Rochester, which is where I am from, Time Warner offers the Playboy channel at an extra cost.  My friend’s parents have been ordering it for some time now.  I think approximately for four or five years.  Although, I am not sure if that is the actual time it has been offered.

I find it hard to believe that this option is not available through Adelphia already.  I guess Time Warner must be ahead of the game a little bit in that respect.  They decided early on that it was the best way to capitalize on the option of offering such viewing to their customers.  When the quote was mentioned about Adelphia just wanting to be part of the money making market I did not understand why just now they are jumping on the bandwagon.  They may have realized that is part of why they are losing other customers to Dish Network.  However, it’s hard to tell if that is the case.

Adelphia is just catching up to the other companies now so that they can try and compete.  They seem to be behind in the advancing services offered by cable providers.  They should maybe try to get ahead of the game next time so that they can try to provide better service.

Because they are unaware?

February 12, 2006

Randall16 makes a good point about exposing children to adult material.  I understand what he is saying regarding finding free homepages in which children can unknowingly come across.  This is a good point that children can easily access this material, however most pornographic sites have warnings before entering.  I am not sure that I would blame pornographic sites for exposing children to this material.  In the same respect it is not the parents fault for not watching every move made on a computer.

In part I would find the Internet provider responsible.  They should allow better blocking capabilities that parents can filter out any adult material.  Child blocking is possible, but not to the extent of letting phrases that could be used in regards to pornography.  The providers should be more responsible for the filtering of material with blocks that prevent certain material.

Parents should fight for more filtering possibilities.  In this sense it is their responsibility to become more active in making this possible.  The parents should be angered enough to make a difference in this area of the Internet.  Although, is it because they do not know that the filters do not catch everything or is it because they just do not care?  I would imagine most parents’ care, so maybe they just are not aware of the advancing technologies of the Internet.

To each his own…

February 12, 2006

The concept of fetishes has been a small subject for me.  When some of the fetishes I was reading about in other blogs, or that were mentioned in the lecture shocked me.  I had never imagined that so many different things could stimulate someone.  What is that makes an ear sexier to someone than say a leg or an arm?  This goes to show that everyone has something different that makes him or her tick.  This can go into the category of differences in personalities.

People being interested in ears or legs are what keep these different sites going.  Even if the demand for a specific fetish is low the consumers might be willing to pay a higher price to keep seeing what they most enjoy.  Also, these sites allow for people to keep from having to go out in public and chance being seen buying videos.  Over the Internet it is harder to run into someone to see a fetish that you might not want to be shared at the office or school.

Fetishes to me seem silly…maybe because I do not think I have any!?  As I see it though is to each there own as long as they are not breaking any laws or exposing any minors to the material.  Every person has to be respectful of the laws that exist and why they are put into affect in the first place.

Intimacy Required?

February 6, 2006

A question that got me thinking was whether sexual intimacy requires physical intimacy.  When I first started thinking about this topic my obvious thought was of course not.  People have sex and engage in sexual activities without having a relationships or knowing one another.  Some people would find it common for a college student to go out and have a “one night stand” at least once (I however am not one of those people.)  This act does not involve having a personal relationship or a physical relationship.

After putting more thought into I started to figure it is how you define the terms sexual intimacy or physical intimacy.  Some people may define sexual intimacy by a warm embrace or a kiss and not just intercourse.  I would refer to just sexual intimacy in the terms of intercourse as lust, and desire not as intimacy.  Overall to have sexual intimacy I believe that physical intimacy is required.

Intimacy is something that occurs over time between couples and is not instantaneous.  This feeling is not obtained by sharing  “your goodies.”  It is about caring for one another, and having a strong connection in all aspect of a relationship.
